Main differences between Whey Protein Isolate WPI and Milk Protein Isolate MPI

E-mail Print PDF

There are two main types of proteins found in Milk. Casein and Whey.

The typical ratio of these proteins in milk is 80% Casein and 20% Whey.

Whey is easily the more popular and well known of these two proteins as it's quickly digested and easily assimilated.

Casein takes much longer to digest. Studies have shown however, that Casein protein can sustain steady amino acid elevations for an incredible 7 hours! Whey being a fast digesting form of protein will increase protein synthesis to a very high degree but not for 7 hours!

In a nutshell:

Casein being digested slower than whey is great for bedtime when you won't be consuming protein for many hours. And also for other times when, for various reasons, you won't be getting protein ie: travel, work, etc. In these circumstances

Casein will be an excellent choice!

Whey being a fast digesting protein also has benefits for different times of the day ie: upon awakening whey gets quality protein into your bloodstream when you need it! Whey is also preferable immediately after workouts to feed/repair muscle tissue asap!

As quality is paramount to us we stock both Whey Protein Isolate (WPI) and Milk Protein Isolate (MPI).

Our Whey Protein Isolate (WPI) is typically 90% protein, all of which is whey!

Our Milk Protein Isolate(MPI) is also almost 90% protein and contains the same protein ratio of milk ie: 80% Casein and 20% whey. The casein in our MPI is pure undenatured Micellar Casein!

These "isolate" versions of these protein powders have had practically all the fat and lactose removed leaving them with very high protein percentages and virtually no denatured (damaged) proteins.

Additionally they're 100% pure and natural with no added sugars, thickeners, additives, artificial flavours, artificial sweetners, etc
